5 Ways To Stay Active When Traveling

I am sure by now you have already thought of
all the places you will be visiting, the food you will be indulging in and all the new friends you will make while on your travels. Of course your traveling can throw you off your fitness track, so here are 5 Ways to stay active when traveling.

1. Early bird
Research shows that people who workout in the morning are more likely
to maintain a consistent routine. I hate having gym looming over my head especially when I am traveling. Getting your workout in first thing in the
morning leaves you with heaps of time to spend doing the things you
love guilt-free.

2. Plan your workout
Planning your workout in advance is one of the best ways to maintaining
your workout routine.
For those who belong to a gym, think outside the box these holidays;
research the area you are travelling to and find out if there is a hiking trail
or popular scenic jogging routes. But you’re not limited to land, how
about a swim? And if you can, pick up a few sessions with a local personal
trainer.

3. Prep your pre-workout meal
Believe it or not, eating or drinking carbs before a workout can improve
your workout allowing you to work out for a longer duration or at higher
intensity.
Not eating and working may leave you feeling sluggish and weak but
eating too much can slow you down so prepping is key. Prep your pre-
workout meals or grab a snack bar if, like me, you’re a morning snacker.

4. Follow your fitspo
Saving your fitness inspiration can be the kick in the butt you need to get
you moving.
Follow some of your favorite fitness pages and save their posts so you can
refer to them for inspiration and short workout ideas.
There is an array of effective workout apps so get downloading.
YouTube also has some great workout videos you can follow.

Here are some of my favourite online fitness gurus with awesome workouts for wherever you go:

@Brittnebabe She is of course a babe and also very consistent in her informative fitness & food posts, she actively post short videos on how to achieve your best bod.

The lean beast @ValentinaLequeux also regularly posts videos on Instagram, I especially love her body conditioning posts.

Then there is South Africa’s very own @Nomvula_Khuzwayo A fav of mine, she is versatile and posts videos from the gym and wherever she feels fit.

5. Pack for your workout
The weight restrictions on luggage can be inconvenient when travelling
so when packing with the intention to exercise on or enroute to your
holiday destination, pack lightly.

A skipping rope is light and provides a full body workout while not
compromising luggage space and weights. Resistances bands take up little
space and are effective for tightening and toning.
The most important thing is to know that you are in charge of your
routine and it is never too late to get back on track.
